Antique Sapphire Diamond Drop Pendant, Rose Cut and Old Mine Cut Diamonds, Silver Gold Late Victorian Jewelry
What first drew me to this pendant was the contrast between the deep blue sapphire and the soft sparkle of the old diamonds. The large oval synthetic sapphire has such a rich, dramatic color, and I love the way it hangs beneath the delicate scrolling top — it gives the whole piece a wonderfully romantic, almost theatrical feeling.
The upper section is set with charming antique rose-cut diamonds and an old mine-cut center diamond. Their irregular, hand-cut facets catch the light very differently from modern diamonds, with a softer and more subtle sparkle that feels perfectly suited to a jewel of this age.
I also really like the construction of this piece. It has been tested as approximately .910 silver with low-carat gold elements, and the combination of silver, gold, old-cut diamonds, and that intense blue stone gives it so much character.
Dating to the late Victorian to early Edwardian period, circa 1900, this is the kind of antique jewel that feels special not because it is perfectly uniform, but because every part of it reflects the way jewelry was made and worn more than a century ago.
